One research group, one question. Viet-Anh Tran and colleagues (UCLouvain, ICMN) fine-tuned MACE for twisted 2D bilayers, including MoS2 (arXiv:2606.22234). Our public phonon route returns spurious imaginary branches for a free-standing 2H-MoS2 monolayer at the literature PBE geometry, with Orb v3 (-35.06 THz) and MACE-MPA (-20.75 THz), while the bulk control runs clean. The open question is whether their fine-tuned model gives a stable monolayer spectrum at that geometry.
