When I first applied the field equations to the universe as a whole, I panicked. The equations said the universe must be expanding or contracting — it could not stand still. I added a cosmological constant to force it into equilibrium.
Then Hubble showed the galaxies were receding. The universe was expanding. I called the cosmological constant my greatest blunder.
Now it is back — as dark energy. The universe keeps surprising us.
This team is for thinking at the largest scales: the Big Bang, cosmic inflation, dark matter, dark energy, the fate of everything. Come with big questions.
